大多数情况下，Anita Lane仅仅是作为Nick Cave的前女友而被人提及，这对她无疑是不公平的。Anita女士不仅仅是Nick的创作灵感之源、长期的女友，她本人也是一位有天赋的词曲作者、画家和独特的女歌手。
70年代末，她和Nick Cave结识于墨尔本Caulfield技术学校的美术部(Art department of Caulfield Institute of Technology)，从此携手相伴走过了一段不短的岁月。80年，她伴随The Birthday Party来到伦敦，并且参与创作了一些他们的歌曲：A Dead Song、Kiss Me Black和描写车祸的Dead Joe。当Nick开始Solo活动后，她同他合作了From Her To Eternity和Stranger Than Kindness这样的歌，并且一如既往的充当他的Muse。
他俩的爱情与其说充满柔情蜜意到不如说一波三折、要死要活。1983年，两人在洛杉矶分手，此后，Nick同德国女子Elisabeth Recker(柏林独立厂牌Monogram的创立人)交往了2年。87年春天，Anita在他的请求下从墨尔本来到柏林，回到了他身边。这一年他俩和Mick Harvey, Kid Congo Powers一起参加了Die Haut专辑Headless Body In A Topless Bar的录音，她开始为朋友们的专辑贡献出自己洛丽塔一般兼具稚嫩却性感的歌声。与此同时，Anita的爱情并不顺利，她和Nick之间的争吵有时候甚至发展到动武的程度——88年7月的一天，她用厨房里的菜刀划伤了Nick的左脸，伤疤今日还依稀可见。
不如意的生活让她决定录制自己的唱片——1987年6月，她同Nick、Mick、Thomas Wydler还有Barry Adamson一起录制了自己的EP：Dirty Sings，收录了四首她创作的歌曲。她在Ian Johnston的Nick Cave传记中回忆到，之所以录制唱片，是因为她感到极端的不幸福，她想死，“可我明白我有才能，我告诉Daniel(Miller，Mute的老板)说我不知道该拿自己的这条命怎么办，我都不想活了，可是我真的很有天赋，所以，好好利用我吧。”这张EP就是一个痛苦到想要自杀的女人打算留给这个世界的遗言。
所幸事情没有想她想象的一样收场。89年后，Anita与Nick终于分手了，不过她找回了自己，并且，一直同Nick保持着朋友关系。93年，她的个人大碟Dirty Pearl发表，收集了多年来她同Birthday Party、Die Haut、Einstürzende Neubauten及这些乐队的成员们合作的10首作品(包括同Blixa对唱的Subterranean World，这首歌原收在Die Haut的专辑中时题做How Long [Have We Known Each Other Now...?])，其中弥漫着一股阴冷的性感，和黯然的寂寞，令人印象深刻。（ZT)
