来自落杉矶丹佛市的另类摇滚乐团The Czars，主唱John Grant早年曾在德国求学六年，之后便回到丹佛市于1994年建立了这个乐团，由于他在留学期间深首欧洲气息的感染，早期的音乐作品La Brea Tar Pits of Routine带着Britpop的风格，并且是先在英国的独立厂牌发行了这张专辑，然后再回到美国他自己的家乡发展
The Czars由五个人组成，Grant低沉浑厚的男中音是乐队最吸引人的亮点，而乐队是采用双吉他配器，以及小提琴、各种鼓器的交相辉映，专辑的歌曲中既有阴郁低沉的颓废之美，也有些乡村民谣的清新散漫
《Drug》是首情歌，但不是梦幻和幸福的那种。它带着深邃的忧伤和无奈，有人说这是一个单恋的故事。John Grant 极富磁性的嗓音描述一个男人迷恋上一个女人，即便是无数次被欺骗，依然上瘾，better than cocain.这样的单恋故事很熟悉，从某一方面来讲，我更情愿是这个迷恋上的男人，终于厌倦了一次次的欺骗，而选择和平放弃所表明的态度，和毒品一样，驱赶出自己的生活，永远没有自己主动退出来得干净。这张专辑名为《The Ugly People vs. The Beautiful People.》，有人翻译为《当丑男人遇上漂亮女人》，想来，反之也未尝不可。当丑陋与美丽对峙，我们是否也只是沉默的人质……
The Czars 乐队向来以忧郁而细腻的风格著称，即便是这样一个凄美的故事，也可以表现得如此壮丽，这个名叫沙皇的乐队，用音乐的形式，代表了某一类人群。其实 The Czars 其它的歌对我来说都略显苍白，唯独钟情于这首《Drug》，带着深深的，不可自拔的迷醉。
